Payment methods
How payment works at checkout.
Last updated: 30 September 2026
What we accept
Rootelier accepts the following at checkout. The icons shown on this page are generated live from the payment providers actually enabled on this store, so they are always accurate.
- Credit and debit cards: Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Discover, Diners Club and JCB.
- Digital wallets: Shop Pay, Apple Pay, Google Pay and Meta Pay.
- PayPal.
- Shop Pay Installments on eligible orders, subject to approval.
- Gift cards issued by us.
All prices and charges are in US dollars (USD). We do not accept cash, checks, money orders, wire transfer, cryptocurrency, or purchase orders. Business and trade customers who need net terms should email support@rootelier.com.
How secure checkout works
Checkout runs on Shopify, which is certified PCI DSS Level 1, the highest level of certification available in the payments industry. Every page of the checkout is served over 256-bit TLS encryption, and your card details are tokenized by the payment processor at the moment you enter them.
We never see, handle or store your full card number or security code. On our side of an order we can see only the card brand and the last four digits, which is what lets us identify a payment if you call about it. See our privacy policy for how we handle the rest of your data.
When you are charged
- Standard orders: in full at checkout, at the moment you confirm the order.
- Nothing is charged to your card automatically later.
- Shop Pay Installments: according to the schedule Affirm shows you before you commit. We are paid in full up front; your instalment agreement is with the financing provider, not with us.
Authorization holds
When you place an order, your bank may show a temporary authorization hold rather than a completed charge. This is normal and disappears or converts to a charge within a few business days. If an order fails and you still see a hold, it is released by your bank, usually within 3–7 business days. We cannot release it for you, but we can confirm in writing that no payment was captured, which is what your bank will ask for.
Sales tax
Sales tax is calculated automatically at checkout based on your shipping address and the states where we have a tax obligation, and is displayed before you confirm. If you hold a valid resale or exemption certificate, email it to us before ordering and we will set up a tax-exempt checkout for you.
If your payment is declined
Declines are decided by your bank or card issuer, and they do not tell us the reason. Try the following in order:
- Check the billing address and ZIP code match your card statement exactly.
- Check the card has not expired, and that the CVV is correct.
- Try a different card, or a wallet such as Shop Pay, Apple Pay or PayPal.
- Call your bank: large furniture orders are a common trigger for automated fraud blocks.
If it still will not go through, contact us during support hours and we will send you a secure Shopify invoice you can pay directly.
Refunds
Approved refunds go back to the original payment method. We issue them within 5 business days of approving a refund; your bank then takes a further 3–10 business days to post the credit. See the refund policy for the full picture.
Fraud prevention
Orders are screened automatically for fraud indicators. We may occasionally ask you to confirm your identity or your billing details before we start a build, particularly on high-value or custom orders. If we cannot verify an order, we cancel it and refund it in full. We never ask for your full card number, your PIN, or your online banking password. If you receive such a request claiming to be from us, it is not from us; please forward it to support@rootelier.com.
