Dining and working chairs sit at 17 to 19 inches, lounge seating sits lower at 15 to 17, and the difference is what separates a chair you sit up in from one you sink into.

Measure the table or side table the chair will serve before choosing. A dining chair wants 11 to 13 inches between the seat and the underside of the table. Every piece is made to order.
